The short films ‘Antón’ and ‘Cafunè’ win the first edition of the Social Theme ShortFilm Lottery Award

The short films Antón, directed by Mikel González Beorlegui, and Cafunè, by Lorena Ares and Carlos Fernández de Vigo, won the first and second Loterías awards in the competitive section of socially themed short films at the San Sebastián Festival, with prizes of €10,000 and €5,000, respectively. Antón addresses the loneliness of elderly people through the story of a man diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) who hides his illness from his daughter, while Cafunè tells the story of a young girl who survived a shipwreck and her journey of recovery with the help of her foster family. The call for entries, which received nearly one hundred submissions, aims to promote positive messages related to wealth redistribution and social justice. José Luis Rebordinos, the festival director, and Jesús Huerta, president of Loterías, praised the success of this first edition and the social 3 commitment of the participants, highlighting the importance of culture in building a better society.
